What is Radon?

Radon is a colorless, odorless, tasteless gas caused by the natural breakdown of uranium in the soil under your home. This hazardous gas seeps into homes from Radon Mitigation by Reading Plumbingthe surrounding soil through porous cement, sump pumps, cracks in the foundation, crawl spaces, etc. It is the number one cause of lung cancer in non-smokers and is present in every home. Approximately 30-40% of the homes tested nationwide have elevated levels of radon that need to be corrected, according to the United State Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA).

What is Radon Mitigation?

It is the process used to reduce radon concentrations in the breathing zones of occupied buildings. Radon enters the house because of air pressure and temperature differences between the home and the outside air. When the air is vented from a building by natural or powered ventilation, radon is drawn from the soil.

How Does Radon Mitigation Work?

Active Sub-slab Depressuriztion uses a fan to draw radon from beneath the house. SSD systems collect radon prior to entry and exhaust it to a safe location above the eave of the house.

Sub-membrane Depressurization is performed in crawl spaces and areas that are directly in contact with rock or soil. Suction is created: under a specified plastic sheet permanetly installed over exposed soil or rock. A fan draws radon from beneath the plastic sheet and exhausts the radon outdoors above the eave of the house.
